Reject the Defects

by Joseph Franks

Leviticus 22:17-20 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and his sons and all the people of Israel and say to them, When any one of the house of Israel or of the sojourners in Israel presents a burnt offering as his offering, for any of their vows or freewill offerings that they offer to the Lord, if it is to be accepted for you it shall be a male without blemish, of the bulls or the sheep or the goats. You shall not offer anything that has a blemish, for it will not be acceptable for you.

Consistently, throughout the writings of Moses, one sees that God expected an excellent sacrifice from his people. Animals brought before him were to be without spot, blemish, or deformity. Defects were to be rejected. Only the best would do for God.

Many centuries later, when God determined to glorify himself by saving his children, he provided a perfect sacrifice. Jesus Christ was excellent in every way. He was delightful and well pleasing in the eyes of the Father. From God, for sinful man, only the best offering would do.

In response to the love of God, believers are to now offer themselves as living sacrifices. They are to be holy, and they are to be acceptable. (Romans 12) This means, to the best of a Christian’s ability, he is to be without spot, blemish, wrinkle or deformity. He is to be excellent, because for God, only the best will do.

So let us not settle for mediocrity. Consider your actions, words, and thoughts. Eliminate even the little sins which are so offensive to your Savior. Put your best Christian foot forward, and seek to be a wonderful fragrance to the King. He has seen you at your worst and determined only the best sacrifice would do for you. Now, reciprocate the love. Give him a glorious display of worship today. Second-rate or Second-class is not sufficient. For our God, only the best worship will do.
